About Clara Haas
Mrs. Haas passed away on October 3, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born in Jamaica Queens NY, daughter of Evelyn and Claude Earle Stephenson. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Haas and a daughter Cathy Conroy. CJ was Carl’s sidekick at their NY restaurant – The Syosset Sweet Shop, until retiring to Charlotte in 1986. First and foremost CJ was a devoted wife and mother. CJ loved swimming, ceramics, knitting, reading, and bowling, which she continued until she was 86. CJ and Carl organized the Senior Bowling League at Park Lanes in 1986 and it is still vibrant today. CJ’s positive outlook on life, her example of healthy living and her steadfast faith in God will always be remembered. CJ is survived by 5 of her children, Richard (NY), Caren Ballantine (Charlotte), Carol Langa (CO), Robert (CO), and Russell (FL), 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Special thanks to all the caretakers at Elmcroft of Little Avenue where she lived the last 4 years while she succumbed to Alzheimer’s.
