About Chris Short
Major League Baseball Player. A left-handed pitcher, he played in fifteen seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers. He was a member of the 1964 and 1967 National League All-Star teams, and won 17+ games four times in a five year span. When won 20 games in 1966, he was the first Phillies lefthander to win that many since Hall of Famer Eppa Rixey achieved it in 1916. In 1964 he was part of a pitching rotation that included Hall of Famer Jim Bunning. The Phillies were six games in first place in the National League with just twelve games left to play in the season. Manager Gene Mauch decided to go with Short and Bunning for the remainder of most of the games thus wearing down both men. The team lost their lead and finished third place behind the Cardinals and Reds resulting in one of the worst collapses in professional sports history. He has a career record of 135 wins and 132 losses.
