Charlotte Arlis Maas

Charlotte Maas passed away at the age of 81 in her home in Fargo on October 6, 2020, under the care of hospice. She grew up in Jamestown, North Dakota with her parents and three siblings. After graduating from Jamestown High School, she moved to Fargo. She attended North Dakota State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Maas on August 31, 1958. She worked as a home economics and physical education teacher at Central High School in Fargo, and then started her career in direct sales with Artex Hobby Products. She rose through the ranks of that company, and its subsequent parent company, Tri-Chem, achieving the positions of Regional Sales Director and Zone Vice-President. After working in direct sales for nearly 20 years, she took a position in the IT department at NDSU, working there for 16 years until her retirement in 2011. Ray and Charlotte had a marriage that was grounded in faith and enjoyed 60 years of membership at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. Charlotte was active in her church, serving as wedding coordinator, chair of the funeral committee, and treasurer of the Abigail Circle. Charlotte’s love of gardening led her to service as President and Treasurer of the Fargo Garden Society. She is survived by her children, Craig Maas and Suzanne (Paul) Dobbins, and three grandchildren, Sean, Timothy and Clare Dobbins. Charlotte is also survived by her siblings, Rodney (Ruby) Letcher of Eugene, OR, Karon (David) Orr of Jamestown, ND and Neal (Terri) Letcher of Jamestown, ND. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Maas and her parents, Bertha and Arnold Letcher. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 9, 2020 at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Masks will be required for the service. The service will be available via live stream on the funeral home’s website. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Fargo Garden Society and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
