About Charles LaBarge

Charles L. LaBarge, 86, of Farmington, beloved husband of the late Bernice E. LaBarge, left this life and entered his journey into heaven on Wednesday, October 24. Born in Norton, Kansas, Sept. 10, 1926, son of the late Leo and Marguerite (Vinlove) LaBarge. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving for twenty years during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Chuck received a purple heart while serving his country on the USS Saratoga. After his retirement from the United States Navy, Chuck worked at United Bank and Trust, Hamilton Standard, Superior Electric and was the singing mail station delivery man at CIGNA. He coached Farmington Little League, spent time roller skating, sledding and enjoyed a friendly game of boxing also ball in the bucket with his grandchildren. Chuck was a golfer and made a hole in one while golfing with his buddy Bob Palmer. He bowled for the Over Hill Gang at Bristol Spare Time and enjoyed the friendships that he made over the years. Chuck was an avid Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He was an armchair coach by reminding both teams to "do your jobs." He was a former member of the East Farmington Volunteer Fire Department. Chuck loved family gatherings and often entertained with his many songs, poems and antics and made everyone laugh. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Twila "Birdy" Palmer, her husband Rich of Bristol, their children, Lori (Cichon) Fleming, her husband Chris and their children Austin and Abbi of Farmington; Kimberly (Cichon) Gulino, her husband Michael and their children, Kailie, Noah and Ethan of Farmington; Michelle (Cichon) Royce, her husband Patrick and their children, Jack, Ella, Jessica and Ben of Farmington; his son, Charles E. LaBarge, his wife Linda and their children, Danielle and Charles E. LaBarge Jr., all of Gaithersberg, MD; his daughter, Katherine Petersen, her husband Gary of Farmington and their children, Melissa Petersen and her daughter Adrianna Buono of Farmington; Christopher Petersen, his wife Lauren of New Milford; and his son, Charles R. LaBarge, his wife Catherine of Terryville and their children, Bryan LaBarge, his wife Wendy of Wolcott and Amy LaBarge of Danbury, his brother, Robert Dale LaBarge of Edmonds, WA and his sister, Catherine Gates and her husband Hershel of Winter Park, FL. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Monday, Oct. 29, at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in St. Casmir Church, Terryville at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington.
