About Charles Cable

Charles A Cable July 3, 1938 - September 29, 2022 Charles A. Cable passed away at the age of 84 at Pikeville Medical Center on Thursday, September 29th, 2022, surrounded by his family. Charles was born at Stillwater, KY to Forest B. and Monna L. Cable on August 3, 1938. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Charles graduated with a bachelor's degree in education and began his career as a teacher in Wolfe County. He taught in one room schools in the county and taught at Wolfe County High School, including the first year the present high school was in use. He later went on to work in management at a local factory. He sold insurance and became a business owner. Charles along with his wife, Phyllis, owned and operated at gift shop in the Natural Bridge State Park area for 42 years. He took great interest in tourism and building up of the area. Nothing gave him more pleasure that seeing the area grow and new businesses open. Charles is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and one daughter, Kim and husband, Scott of Campton. He leaves behind one granddaughter, Becky and her husband, Ryan and a great grandson, Brennan. He also leaves behind a grandson, Kevin and his wife Cassie, of Campton, along with two great grandsons, Waylon and Cash. He is also survived by one sister, Anna Rose Morehead of Stanton, KY along with a multitude of nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. Charles loved his family deeply and his grandchildren and great grandsons Waylon, Brennan and Cash were the light of his life. "PAPAW CHARLIE" as he was called, was always ready for a romp with the grands. The grandsons would often ask…"Can Papaw Charlie come and play?" When he came to play, things got lively, and papaw sometimes had to have time out. Charles loved people, and he never saw a stranger. During the past few years, he spent a lot of time in doctor's offices, emergency rooms, and in the hospital. He never failed to get the names of the people he met, including where they were from. He always tried to find people in common that he could strike up a conversation about. He didn't like to let anyone slip by without finding out something about them that he could talk to them about. When visiting him in the hospital, you often were introduced to the new friends that he had made and told something interesting that he had found out about them. Charles enjoyed bluegrass music, yardwork, working on model trains, working puzzles, but most of all interacting with friends and family. He enjoyed hanging out with his good buddy Frank Porter at the funeral home, and spent many hours there helping out as he could and just visiting when he could no longer be of help. He will be missed by many.
