About Catherine Zaccaro

Catherine Rose Zaccaro, of Brockton passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2016, at West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Zaccaro. Born in Gordon, Nebraska, January 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank Posey and Rachel (Norton) Ecoffey. She was proud to be the granddaughter of Rose Ecoffey, an Oglala Sioux Indian, known as Princess Blue Waters, when she traveled in the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. Kay graduated from St. Marys Episcopal School for Indian Girls in Springfield, So. Dakota, and from secretarial/business school in Washington, DC. While living and working in Washington, she met her husband Dick. They then moved to Brockton, where they raised their family. She retired in 1984 from Mass. Dept. of Children and Families, where she worked as an administrative assistant. Catherine enjoyed dancing at the VFW with her husband every Saturday night. She also enjoyed family night spaghetti dinners, baking peanut butter cookies from her grandmothers recipe, dressing up in her Indian costume for Halloween, being a fast typist, going to the beach to collect shiny white rocks and traveling to Italy, Hawaii, California and Florida. She also loved sewing, knitting, reading and keeping her daily diary along with occasionally playing the slot machines at Mohegan Sun in Conn. Catherine was an active member of the Senior Center and the Red Hat Society. She is survived by her loving daughter and son, Elizabeth Thompson and her husband Kenneth and Richard Zaccaro Jr. and his wife Gina; cherished grandmother of Alisa Simoes and her husband David, A. Brant Johnson, Nicholas J. Zaccaro and wife Stacey and Katrina R. Cuqua and her husband William; great-grandmother of Andrea and Matthew Simoes, William and Victoria Cuqua, Dante Richie Zaccaro and Taylor and Anthony Spinale; and her brother Robert Ecoffey and family of Wounded Knee, SD. She is also survived by her nieces Nancy Matta and husband Karam, Gail Weigold and her husband Chicky and their children and many other loving friends and relatives including her niece Rochelle Norrie and nephew Harry Ray Steele of Antioch, Calif. She was the sister of the late Betty Steele. Visitation will take place Friday from 3-6 p.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St., Brockton. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 9 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Church in Brockton.
