About Callie Fagan

Callie Lee Sasser Fagan November 11, 1919 - March 8, 2014 Services for Callie Lee Sasser Fagan, 94, of Gladewater, will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 1 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Chase officiating. Burial will be in Algoma Cemetery. She departed this life to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on March 8, 2014. She passed after a short illness at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Callie was born in Gladewater, Texas, on November 11, 1919, to Bridges Franklin Sasser and Ernest Mae (Phillips) Sasser. Her early life was spent with her parents and younger brother, Buford Rudolph Sasser, in the Rocky community in Upshur County where they attended church at Rocky Church of Christ. Her early schooling was at Rocky Community School. Her family moved to Marshall around 1926 where she attended Marshall schools and graduated from Marshall High School in 1937. She met Emmit Vernon Fagan at church; they courted and were married in Scottsville, Texas, on February 24, 1940. They lived in Marshall and attended church at Burleson Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmit in 1988, and her parents, and brother. She is survived by their three children and their families: Emmit Franklin Fagan and wife, Aline; Gerald Douglas Fagan and wife, Bobbie; and Karen Diane Mascho and husband, Steve; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces and their families; numerous cousins and friends. Following her marriage, she was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Marshall. In 1962 she transferred to the office in Little Rock, Arkansas, when her husband's employment with Missouri Pacific Railroad moved them there. She retired in 1970. After retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and volunteering at the hospital. In 1988 she returned to Marshall, Texas, to care for her elderly mother until her death in 1989. In 1992 she moved back to the Rocky Community to be near her daughter who had settled on the old family farm with her family, and she attended Quitman and Center Church of Christ in Gladewater. Callie will be best remembered for the love, care, help, and teaching she lavished upon her family. Her greatest desire was for her family and friends to know and submit their lives to the way of Jesus. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. (Published by Croley Funeral Home, March 11, 2014)
