Rites Held for Capt. Simonet Capt. C. Frederick Simonet, 73, of 68 Washington St., Waterloo, a former Camden resident, died July 27, 1987, in Geneva General Hospital after a brief illness. Capt. Simonet was born May 16, 1914 in Antwerp, N.Y., son of Charles E. and Bessie Sheley Simonet. He graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1939. He taught math and coached in Camden where he met Dorothy Becker of Waterloo. He was called into services as an officer in the Navy during World War II and was part of an amphibious landings in the European and Far East theaters, culminating in command of LST 517 at Normandy. After the war, Capt. Simonet married Miss Becker and returned to Syracuse University where he earned a master of science degree in education. He then taught in Elmira where, in 1950, he was recalled to active duty for the Korean conflict. His Naval career continued from 1950 to 1970. During that time, he was the commanding officer of three different ships, served at Treasure Island, Calif., was commanding officer of Fort Schuyler, N.Y. and finally as deputy Chief of Staff for the Naval Reserve First District, he had 9,000 men, 10 ships and 112 Reserve Units under his command. He was treasurer of the Seneca County Chapter American Red Cross, past treasurer of the North Seneca Ambulance Service, past president of the Waterloo Rotary Club and a former senior warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for Rotary Camp Onseyawa for handicapped children, a dispatcher for the north Seneca Ambulance Service, and a member of the Seneca Lodge F&AM and Waterloo Memorial Post, VFW. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, John of Dedham, Mass. and Paul of Fayetteville; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Thomas of Healdsburg, Calif.; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Snow of Beaver Falls, N.Y. and three grand children. The funeral was held July 30 with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Church or Camp Onseyawa for Handicapped Children, or the North Seneca Ambulance Service.
