C. Braddock Jones

From The Capital dated 27 May 1980, page 10 Funeral services were held today at St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church for C. Braddock Jones, 91, attorney, builder and financier, who died of heart failure at his Linsteart home Saturday morning. Although he had been ill for some time, Mr Jones was active m business until about a year ago He was the founder of several firms including Thompson and Jones insurance brokers with offices in Baltimore and Severna Park; the Cedar Building and Loan Co. in Brooklyn, founded in 1926; the Belle Grove Corp., a construction company founded m 1941, and the Jeffrey Homes Corp., a real estate firm which he founded in 1946. Born in Baltimore, Mr Jones attended Johns Hopkins University for two years and graduated from the University of Maryland Law School, passing the bar examination in 1921. He worked at the Baltimore Sunpapers, starting as a copy boy in 1909 and was a photographer and reporter before leaving that firm in 1913. He was credited with taking one of the first photographs to appear in a newspaper— a shot of a horse race at Pimlico Race Track. He was a past president of the Home Builders Association of Maryland and a member of the Merchants Club of Baltimore, the Sons of the American Revolution and the Concordia Lodge No. 13 of the Masonic Order He was married to the late Caroline Stafford Jones who died in 1976, and is survived by two sons, C Braddock Jr. of Annapolis and Palmer S of Arnold, two daughters, Elizabeth J Hesse of Severna Park and Virginia White of Pikesville; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren Burial was at Lorraine Park Cemetery in Woodlawn Arrangements are by the Barranco Severn Park Funeral Home Memorial contributions may be made to the Anne Arundel General Hospital.
