Burgis Maynard Taber

Burgis Maynard Taber 14 March 1920 ~ 27 July 2014 U.S. Veteran Burgis Maynard Taber 94, born March 14, 1920, entered Glory on July 27, 2014. Burgis was born in Granby, Missouri, son of M. L. Taber and Naomi (Woodcock) Taber and lived the majority of his life in the Riverton area. He was an active member of Lowell Friends Church and the Mid-America Yearly Meeting of Friends. Burgis worked over 35 years at B. F. Goodrich in Miami, Oklahoma. He enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, his six grandchildren and his life-long friends. Burgis served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. He is survived by six grandchildren: Jim Hansen (LeAnn), Wendell Hansen (Amy), and Linda Steinacher (Brendan) of Wichita, KS, Brenda Fowler (Wakon) of Pratt, KS, Joanna Taber of Kensington, CA and Caroline Taber of Sacramento, CA; Daughter-in-law Kay Harrison Taber of Sacramento, CA, Son-in-law Duane Hansen of Wichita KS and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Taber of Joplin, MO, his sister, Rebecca Taber Chambers, Orange, CA as well as a host of life-long, special friends. Burgis was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mae (Winfrey) Taber, his daughter, Patricia Jo Anne (Taber) Hansen, his son, Rev. Dennis M. Taber, his parents and his brother, Neal Taber. Viewing and visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, July 29 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, 328 E 12th St., Baxter Springs, KS 66713. A celebration of Burgis' life will be held at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel on Wednesday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at the Lowell Cemetery, 72nd Terrace and Boone Lake Road.
