Betty Uhland

Betty Griner Uhland, 88, of Bridgeton died Sunday morning March 11, 2012 at the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Browns Mills following an extended illness. The widow of Rodney L. Uhland, who died in 1999, she was born in Bridgeton and was the daughter of the late John and Madeline (nee Plummer) Griner. She had been a lifelong resident of Bridgeton and was a graduate of Bridgeton High School. Mrs. Uhland worked for many years as the bookkeeper for Uhland Brothers/Dutch Neck Farms in Bridgeton. In addition to helping with her husband's farming operation, she also worked for several years as a clerk to the Prudential Insurance Company in Bridgeton. A member of the former Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Mrs. Uhland was a member of the Matinee Musical. She was well known for her "Ladybird" Johnson hairstyle which she wore all her life. She was a devoted wife and mother who always showed great devotion by attending her daughter's quarter horse shows. Mrs. Uhland was also a consummate homemaker and took great pride in the appearance of her home. In her younger years she enjoyed the N.J. shore and always loved her winter vacations to Florida with her husband. She is survived by one daughter, Karen D. Berry and her husband George of Hopewell Township, a brother-in-law, Thomas Uhland, also of Hopewell Township and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at the FREITAG FUNERAL HOME, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Pastor David L. Strope of the West Park United Methodist Church officiating. The interment will take place in the family lot at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. Published in The Bridgeton News on March 13, 2012
