Betty Lou Abbott

Betty Lou Abbott, 86, of Moreno Valley, California passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Community Care Rehab in Riverside, California. Betty was born in White Oak, Oklahoma February 15, 1926 and when she was about 4 years old moved to Vinita, Craig County, Oklahoma where she attended and graduated from Vinita High School, class of 1944. She worked at the phone company there until she met and married her husband, Carl Abbott on Christmas Eve in 1946. They had three children and moved to Norwalk, California where they lived until 1970 when they moved to Buena Park, California. When Carl retired they moved to Moreno Valley, California. Betty worked at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, California then at Presbyterian Hospital in Whittier, California as a nurse's aid. Betty came from a very close family. Her father was Herman Goins, Chief of Police in Vinita, Oklahoma until the time of his death. Her mother, Opal Marie (deceased) worked at Eastern State Hospital in Vinita. In 1999 Betty had to go into a nursing home due to the fact she had post polio syndrome and wasn't able to walk anymore. While at Community Care and Rehab in Riverside she held the position of President of the Patient Counsel for three years. Betty belonged to the Box Car Bums CB Club where she held the position of Treasurer. Betty loved life and her family, loved to play Bingo, go camping and being around people. She was a member of the Norwalk Missionary Baptist Church in Norwalk, California. Betty has had a hard fight, her whole life battling polio but she never gave up, worked, raised three children and tried her hardest to always go on. She will be missed by anyone who knew her. She is survived by her children; Curtiss Nelson Abbott (Jesse-lea) of Black Butte, Oregon, Sharon C. Copeland of Moreno Valley, California and Carl Douglas Abbott (Linda) of Norco, California: Grandchildren; Patricia Dickason Copeland (Glenn), Bobby L. Copeland, Jr. (Carmen), Gary Nelson Copeland (Aurora), Michael, Keith and Amy Abbott: Great Grandchildren; Cody and Brent Dickason, Presley Copeland, Austin Paolini, Zakaree, Darby and Garrett Copeland, Hunter Abbott McMasters, Madalyn Abbott McMasters, and great, great grandson, Wyatt Dickason
