Barbara Marlys Bernhardson

Barbara "Barb" Marlys Bernhardson May 23, 1932 - February 5, 2023 Barbara Marlys (Hetland) Bernhardson, of Moorhead, MN., passed away peacefully, on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the age of 90. Barbara was born on May 23, 1932, to William and Mildred Hetland, of rural Shelly, MN. She attended Lincoln School and Climax High School, graduating in 1951. After high school, Barbara worked at Riverside Hospital, in Crookston, and the State Bank of Shelly. She married Eddie Bernhardson, on May 6, 1955, at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Shelly. This coming May, would have marked their 68th anniversary. Eddie and Barbara, moved to Moorhead, in 1962, when Eddie accepted a position with Clay County Extension. They have resided in the same home since moving to Moorhead. Barbara was the ultimate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never sought accolades, but unknowingly developed a lasting legacy with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family and the communities she was a part of always received her unconditional support. She loved flowers, gardening, and welcoming folks with food and goodies for family gatherings, as those were the good times. Barbara was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, where she was extremely active, including being a Wednesday Church School lead teacher, for preschoolers for many years. Together in retirement, Eddie and Barbara, were actively involved with the Red River Valley Fair Board and the NDSU Harvest Bowl. Barbara is survived by her husband, Eddie; her children: Debra (Orlyn) Austin, Westhope, ND., David (Rebecca) Bernhardson, Apple Valley, MN., Dana (Kyle) Ellingworth, Lakeville, MN., and Duane (BethAnn Nuelle) Bernhardson, Grand Forks, ND.; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings: Eldon (Robin) Hetland, and Janice Hagen; sisters-in-law: Marlene Hetland, Helen Kassenborg, Marilyn Bernhardson; brother/sister-in-law, Charles and Helen Bernhardson. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mildred Hetland; brother, Wayne; daughter-in-law, Pamela; in-laws, Elvin and Florence Bernhardson; brother/sister-in laws: James Hagen, Drell and Adeline Bernhardson, Lucille and Glen Schuman, Betty and Marvin Leiseth, Lois Bernhardson, Allan Kassenborg, and Wally Bernhardson. A visitation will be held at Bethesda Lutheran Church, in Moorhead, MN., from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., on Friday, February 24, 2023, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Services will also be at Bethesda Lutheran Church, at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, February 25, 2023, with visitation 1 hour prior. Interment will be at a later date.
