About Arnie Risen
Hall of Fame Professional Basketball Player. For thirteen seasons (1945 to 1958), he played at the center and forward positions in the National Basketball League, Basketball Association of America and National Basketball Association with the Indianapolis Kautskys, Rochester Royals and Boston Celtics. Born Arnold Denny Risen, he attended Williamstown High School and played collegiate basketball at Ohio State University. While with the Buckeyes, he contributed to Ohio State's rise to becoming a powerhouse and was a key member of two squads which reached the "Final Four" in the NCAA Tournament (1944 and 1945). After the NBA evolved, Risen's career took off and he experienced a world championship as a vital player on the 1950-1951 Rochester Royals' NBA Title team. Individually, he distinguished himself as the league leader in total rebounds with 196 and points with 273 during that years postseason. The following year (1952), he achieved the first of four consecutive NBA All-Star honors (1952 to 1955). He was acquired by the Celtics in 1955 and saw his second world championship with Boston's first NBA Championship team (1956-1957). He was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998. He died of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in addition to lung cancer.
