About Alice Dieterich Simmons Deery
Leola Alice Hayes Simmons Deery, 92, of Freeport, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center. Her official given name was Alice Leola Hayes, but she didn't like Alice plus that was her mother's name, so she went by Leola. Leola was born October 18, 1915 in Woodbine, a daughter of William and Alice Bane Hayes. She married Keith T. Dieterich January 14, 1932, (Div). She married Charles Roland Simmons 18 May 1935 and he died in 1970. She married Bernard Joseph Deery 31 March 1973 and he died in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Leonard) Dexter and Ruth (Ralph) Riegger; four grandchildren, Gary Helbling, Debra Watson, Vicki Seeman, and Steven Dexter; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Leola was preceded in death by; Her parents; husbands; a son, Milo Dieterich; four brothers; John Leroy Hayes 1901 – 1993, Harry "Leo" Hayes 1906 –1991, Lawrence Edwin Hayes 1909 – 1989, Maurice "Morrie" LaVerle Hayes, and four sisters, Sina Agnes Hayes 1898 – 1989, Anna Laura "Laura" Hayes 1902 – 1957, Mabel Josephine Hayes 1904 – 1976, Vada Irene Hayes 1911 – 1911. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walker Mortuary, with the Rev. Don Jamerson of First Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
