About A. Smith
Mrs. A. Jayne Smith, 61, wife of Marvin Smith, of Snow Hill, passed away on March 9, 2013 surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer. Born on February 23, 1952, in Hampton, VA, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Martha Lankford. Jayne was the owner of Smith's Rentals in Snow Hill and along with her husband Marvin Smith, Smith's Septic Service, Inc. Jayne was also previously employed for many years at the National Science Teachers Association in Arlington, VA. Jayne was a kind soul who faced every day with a smile on her face and a song in her heart. Jayne is survived by her husband, Marvin Smith; step-daughters, Angie Gillis of Ocean City, April Payne and husband, Tim of Pocomoke, and Lisa Shockley and husband, Shaun of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Brad, Shelby and Jordon Gillis, Colby Payne and Draven Shockley; a brother, Bill Lankford; sisters, Shirley Esposito and husband, Carl, Patty Mariner, and Jackie Lankford; brothers-in-law, Edward Smith and wife, Mary, and Richard Smith; sisters-in-laws, Gloria Bowden, and Evelyn Ewell and husband, Eddie; and many nieces and nephews. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Lankford and sister, Rosie Lankford. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley, VA with Rev. Donald Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Bates United Methodist Cemetery in Snow Hill, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospital, 301 St Paul Place, Baltimore, MD 21202.
